Apps You Can Use When Jetlagged And Awake At 3am

26 June 2017

There is nothing worse than jetlag, especially when travelling for business. Luckily, there are a handful of apps you can use to either help you get back to sleep, or wake you up enough to be productive in the wee hours of the morning.

Beewake

This app allows you to find and book workspaces in Paris and New York. You can book meeting rooms, co-working spaces, closed offices or collaborative workspaces for anything from an hour to a week. If you’re struggling with jetlag, logon to the app and find a 24-hour workspace nearby and start being productive.

Relax App

This app is the one you need when actually trying to get to sleep at 3am. It plays relaxing music with animations to match. The free version has ads, which really do defeat the purpose, so it’s best to pay for the full version.

Brainwave Tuner

Another one that should help you to actually fall asleep, Brainwave Tuner uses music to change the frequency of your brainwaves, so that they’re at the optimum length for relaxation. Use it again when it’s time to get up in the morning and it will stimulate your brainwaves to wake you up.

StopJetLag

This one might not be overly useful when you’re already jetlagged and awake at 3am, but it will certainly help you avoid that. Taking into account how much light you should be getting or avoiding, when to drink caffeine, when to exercise, when to eat and how much, this app works best if you start using it a couple of days before you fly, then during the flight and on arrival to your destination.

Smiling Mind

This app provides free guided meditations, from bite sized sessions to longer meditations. The more often you do it, the easier it becomes and the more beneficial to you. If you’re not used to meditating, it might not help you fall asleep, but it’ll certainly help you pass the time and relax your mind.

Late-night food delivery Apps

While some business hotels have 24-hour room service, there are also delivery apps that can bring you food any time of the night. In Australia Deliveroo, Foodora and Uber Eats only deliver to 11pm or midnight, however in some other countries they go a lot later. When booking accommodation, or on arrival at the hotel, ask for recommendations on where you can find food at any hour in case you need to order in.

Bonus: 24-hour gyms

While there might not be one app that can show you all of the 24-hour gyms around the world, if you’re struggling to sleep at 3am, a good sweat session might help you along. Many business hotels offer 24-hour gym access, or ask at reception if there’s one nearby you can use. It’ll either help you get to sleep, or wake you up enough to get some work done too.
